Announcing the Prime Movers Lab Breakthrough Science Roadmap

At Prime Movers Lab, we believe that two of the most powerful tools humanity has to improve the state of the world are science and technology. We invest in companies using breakthrough science to improve the lives of billions — by solving some of the greatest challenges humanity faces, or by providing humanity new capabilities that we’ve never had before.

As investors in deep technology startups, we constantly ask ourselves: What’s next? What will science and technology make possible in the years ahead? And what science and technology do we need in order to address the great challenges of our time?

In attempting to answer these questions for ourselves, we’ve put together an interactive tool that allows you to explore some of the key innovations we see on the horizon between now and 2050: Our Prime Movers Lab Breakthrough Science Roadmap.

You can use the tool to explore future innovations in climate and energy, infrastructure, transportation, manufacturing, food and agriculture, and human augmentation.

The roadmap is deliberately expansive, because our interests are as well. From addressing climate change and providing the food, water, and energy that billions of people need; to augmenting the human mind and body; to further opening the frontiers of space: If breakthrough science and technology can be used to solve the world’s challenges, to improve the lives of billions, or to expand humanity’s reach, it fits within our mission to invest in and accelerate the deployment of.

Any attempt to make detailed predictions about the future is bound to be at least a little wrong, of course. We know that some innovations will prove far more challenging than they look today, while others that we don’t anticipate at all will arrive and surprise us. We intend for this roadmap to be a living tool, updated over time. And in every sector of the roadmap you’ll find an option to provide us feedback.
