Prime Movers Lab Launches Summer Research Fellowship Program — Apply Now!

Prime Movers Lab invests in the founders of breakthrough scientific startups with the potential to transform billions of lives. To keep up with the latest emerging technology trends, we are launching a Summer Research Fellowship Program and looking for our first cohort of Summer Research Fellows.

We are offering fellowship opportunities to Ph.D. students, M.D. students and post-docs who want to gain exposure to venture capital and startups in deep technology. Fellows in this program will have an opportunity to dive deeply into an agreed upon sector of interest where the focus will be on researching existing and emerging technologies, market, companies and potential customers in a shared area of interest. Fellows will seek out and engage with startups and experts in the field to help inform investment hypotheses and identify possible investment opportunities.

Fellows will publish a thought paper at the conclusion of their fellowship and contribute to blogs, webinars, and other public facing content during their tenure. The fellowship is 16 weeks long, with 12 weeks dedicated to research and 4 weeks dedicated to content generation. It begins on July 1, 2022 and applications will be accepted through June 15, 2022.

Responsibilities:

• Work with the investment partners to develop deep expertise in an investment sector identified by our General Partners.
• Research and report on current state of the art and emerging technologies within a given scientific sector of deep interest to the firm.
• Produce a thought paper on an agreed upon sector of interest, with guidance from other team members.
• Contribute to blogs, webinars, and other public-facing content during their tenure.
• Evaluate, appropriately document, and report on new investment opportunities to meet deal flow objectives.
• Participate on calls with entrepreneurs and support the development of new investment themes through primary research while also sourcing and identifying promising founders and startups in a specified sector.

Requirements:

• Ph.D., master's, and/or M.D. student in physical sciences, life sciences or engineering.
• Must be a quick learner and self-starter that can get up to speed and has a strong desire to deeply understand technical areas outside their core expertise.
• Required time commitment is 5–10 hours per week for 16 weeks.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Team player mentality with a science and service focus.

Bonus:

• A strong translational or applied research focus is preferred.
• Additional entrepreneurship, industry, or business experience is a plus.
• Previous exposure to startups is preferred.
