Perspective on Some of Today’s Insanity

The markets are crashing. A global pandemic is spreading. Oil price wars are unfolding. Fear is in the air. Shouldn’t we panic and focus on everything that is going wrong? No. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Today is undoubtedly the greatest time to be alive and while we all have the desire to freak out in response to current world events, this is actually a massive opportunity.

First, why is this the greatest time to be alive? Today, we have more wealth, prosperity and abundance at our finger tips than most humans could possibly have dreamt of in a lifetime. Thanks to breakthrough inventions, the rate of progress and creation of conditions that enable unimaginable human joy is accelerating. In the last year alone, unprecedented medical developments, extraordinary transportation innovations, groundbreaking shifts in energy production and expansion of the bounds of human exploration of space have occurred. And all signs indicate this will continue at unheralded rates.

Second, why are some of the best opportunities of all time emerging at the moment? Let’s list out a few of the many reasons:

1. A market correction is happening. This means things are on sale! It has been long overdue and generally difficult for investors to find opportunities for returns, but that is changing. As winter arrives, there is more of a chance to generate wealth than during any other financial season. The best startups and greatest fortunes emerge from winter in a period of thoughtful spending and disciplined growth.
2. Working from home is the future. It means more productivity, more time with loved ones and less wasted energy on commutes. People are going to wake up to this even more rapidly with some of the limitations on travel and meetings that are going into effect. Download Zoom!
3. Quarantine and travel limitations. This is a great time to spend some time with friends and family at home connecting rather than jetsetting. Read a book. Take a nap. Cook a meal. Celebrate the extra time you have to focus on what matters most to you.

During a storm, if you stay centered and focused, you will find the opportunities and be the light to guide those around you to safety. This is an extraordinary test and chance to show what you are made of and call on some of that extra zen and inner strength.
