Why We Partnered With Nelumbo
We evaluate companies along four dimensions: team, technology, business, and stage — and Nelumbo, the leader in nanostructured materials, is a winner in each of these categories.
Founders include CEO Liam Berryman, CTO Lance Brockway and SVP of Engineering Dave Walther. The three of them share a deep resilience, an unwavering commitment to growth, strong values and massively compelling vision for the future of materials that has the potential to reshape many of the world’s most important products.
The technology is a patented platform approach to changing the properties of a vast array of materials such as decreasing corrosion for industrial coolers to increase energy efficiency 20–30% or producing moisture wicking textiles much lighter than anything in the market today. These initial use cases are just the beginning of a much larger story.
The business is simple and straightforward: multiphase partnerships with world-leading product companies (eg Danfoss for industrial cooling) to advance applications from development to commercialization at scale. Product companies must reinvent themselves to stay competitive today and Nelumbo has a crucial piece of that puzzle solved.
Lastly, we partner with companies at the stage that they have invented something immensely valuable and are just beginning to commercialize the technology. While Nelumbo already has substantial traction, it is still the early days in the scope of their much broader vision so we have the opportunity to roll up our sleeves and help this extraordinary team create and accelerate the future.
