At Primitive Ventures, we deeply believe that crypto represents far more than just an asset or technological advancement; it’s the new socioeconomic primitive that will redefine individual sovereignty and financial paradigms. In order to pursue this long-term belief, unlike traditional VCs that raise money and operate on a 2% management fee and 20% carry model, Primitive Ventures does not rely on outside capital. Instead, we invest our own money, putting 100% of our skin in the game as an evergreen fund. This not only demonstrates our unwavering commitment but also ensures that our interests are fully aligned with those of our founders. This self sovereign funding model also grants us the freedom to embody our core thesis of “long substance, short status” by backing some of the most innovative anonymous founders in the industry and driving forward the most cutting-edge crypto-native experiments.
Since inception, our team has grown organically through genuine friendships and a shared dedication to putting founders at the center of everything we do. Today I’m more then thrilled to announce my dear friend Allen Day joining Primitive Ventures as our venture partner.
Allen earned his Ph.D. in Human Genetics at UCLA under Stanley Nelson and Steve Horvath (the inventor of the Horvath clock). He is the founder of Google’s web3 team and is known for his unparalleled expertise in open-source development. During his 11 years at Google, he delivered some of the most pioneering data infrastructure to connect the two parallel universes of public cloud and public chain. He founded a faction within the open data movement through BigQuery public datasets on public blockchain data and BlockchainETL within Google, building the Google Web3 team from the ground up. Prior to Google, he was the Chief Scientist at MapR
Our friendship grew out of our mutual interests in crypto, but what really solidified our bond was our shared worldview and life philosophy centered around transculturalism and self-sovereignty. We both have a deep fascination with exploring how evolutionary nuances influence human behavior and how technology can reshape our minds. We both believe that like water follows the path of least resistance, human ingenuity follows the path of least friction and coercion. Allen is an OG in longevity by his academic background, while I’m an avid longevity practitioner driven by my enthusiasm and self-taught expertise in the field. Our daily conversation can range from how cocao and durian are generic cousin to LP a new anon rebased coin that just deployed. In his entire career Allen has demonstrated unwavering commitment to helping next-gen founders, indie developers, and embraced the most original cypherpunk spirit that truly distinguishes him. As we delved into discussions about the future of crypto, AI, bioengineering, and their synergistic impact on humanity, it became clear that our paths were meant to converge.
Allen will be leading many pathfinding domains at Primitive Ventures, including but not limited to the intersection of AI and crypto, the future of decentralized data and compute stacks, and next-generation cryptographic schemes and validating mechanism. Together, we’ve dreamed about writing the next chapter of exploration and investment in AI, bioengineering, and longevity once crypto becomes less exciting (if ever!). As we embark on this new chapter together, I couldn’t be more excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.
