Vampire Penguin is know for serving their cold and creamy Taiwanese dessert, also known as shaved snow. It is a cross between ice cream and the traditional shaved ice desserts that is popular in the areas of Hawaii and Asia. Here at UC Davis, California walking down on G street; We visit Vampire Penguin to take a break from our exhausting midterms and studies. We order the Strawberry Cheese Cake flavor and we were very impressed by the quality of vampire penguin dessert’s. The first time we ate their dessert, we literally just want to go back every week to try their other flavors because it tasted SO GOOD! It was a pleasurable dessert shaped like a cylinder pyramid from the beginning to the end. The texture was so rich it was something we have never tasted before. In all of that being said, we both wanted to create a web design layout that will help enhance their dessert restaurant. Since vampire penguin does not have a website, we both thought it would be best to explore our own findings in navigating what would the website layout consist of in their restaurant.

In attempt to create a website layout from scratch, we both designed a wireframe to see how we can approach our own navigation through the space. Some of the ideas we wanted as our focus in addition to creating the website are consistency , clarity, and being minimalist. In the process of continuing this step to further proceed, we first created a fireware.

Initial Wireframing

This was our initial wireframe sketch layout of what we envision for the website. In the beginning we include two locations for Vampire Penguin. By starting the first page with the location, we wanted to give a direction that focuses one page at the time when the users interacts with the page.

Part II

Then after creating our wireframe, we decided to start designing the actual site, we did this with extremely low amounts of resources and without knowing any content from the site itself, however the results turn our pretty well and we have pretty good reception of it.

Initial Design

We then decided to get some feedback from our audience(Our design classmates.

The Problems, The Feedback

There are two locations on our site. Those two of those location are Sacramento and Davis. The problem we encounter after having two of these locations was that we wouldn’t know if the Sacramento would have the same menu of those desserts as Davis. However, we have all the information for Davis’ location but didn’t have the information for the Sac location. We also got feedback that there was too much clicking on the site, the users don’t need and don’t want to go back and forth. There was also no back button so that the user will not be able to go back to the original page.

Part III (Final Touchups)

We then decided to redesign and also get a second round of feedback. In our second round, our page background was distracting , we loss too many information and also we did not have a clear consistency . We then took all this feedback and once again remade the site in a way that users can get all the information they need easily while still have a appeal to their eye. Here is the most recent work in terms of making the Vampire Penguin website page.

Design Wireframe Most Current Touches

Moving on…

Our plans as we move on is to add pricing into the side of each of the item, make the menu much more graphically appealing, as well as create the actual fully functional website for Vampire Penguin!

Summary

Overall, we solved the problem of making a actual website for a non existent one from scratch. There is still a ton of work to do design wise but it accomplished the goal of being super easy to use as well as give the consumers enough information for them to order. We hope you enjoy our initial design and any feedback would be awesome! Also we hope you visit Vampire Penguin because it’s an awesome location in terms of taking a break!
