Adcap Engineers have researched, trained, tested, deployed, and supported many different Mobility configurations. We have done customer deployments, operated many of these systems internally, and tested different combinations in real world environments. What we have put together is our best recommendations for the different elements of a complete solution.

Most of Adcap’s customers are mid size organizations, with between 100 and 10,000 users, most with multiple locations. Many of these organizations usually do not have a big enough IT staff to be able to test and deploy their own solutions, and look for recommendations, deployment, and support from their vendors.

Many of our customers have operations that have to be up and running continually, and have complex networking and communications needs. The Adcap Mobility Solution is designed for these types of organizations.

Some of the criteria that have gone into our recommendations are:

  • Product Technological Leadership.
  • Interoperability and use of standard protocols.
  • Systems Management capabilities.
  • Vendor Support capabilities.
  • Vendor long term viability.

Technological leadership and the use of standard protocols is often at cross purposes. Standard protocols develop over time, and are usually created when a vendor creates new capabilities as proprietary protocols, which are then submitted to standards bodies and accepted over the course of a few years. Sometimes better results are achieved when parts of the solution are all by a single vendor, and sometimes clear technical superiority of products calls for a best of breed solution. The Adcap Mobility Solution has both elements.

Apple is a good example of a company that has used technological leadership and proprietary technology to create a new market. They use their control of technology to create a tight integration of hardware, software, and cloud services. It is effective even though there is limited choice in devices.

Google has gone the other direction, and created a more open mobile device ecosystem with the Android operating system. There are a larger variety of products and more rapid technological change, but the products are not as user friendly or polished as the Apple products.

The Adcap Mobility Solution is not just a set of recommendations. It is also something Adcap is committed to delivering in production and supporting for the long term. This means Adcap has committed to the following for each vendor and element of the solution:

  • Staying technically current.
  • Training sales, architects, deployment, and support teams.
  • Purchasing and internally operating demo and production systems.
  • Maintaining vendor authorizations.
  • Understanding system interoperability.

The sheer variety of ways to address the different mobility issues means there are multiple choices for each element of the solution. The Adcap Mobility Solution is the best set of choices available at this point in time. The solution will be updated regularly. There are many alternatives to our recommendations, and I welcome feedback on different systems that Adcap should evaluate to incorporate into the recommend Mobility Solution.
