[Android] v3.8.0 Update (Informational effects / RTMP Overlay / Resuming your YouTube streams)

I am sharing the news of PRISM Android v3.8.0 update with you.

PRISM Android v3.8.0
Scheduled for release at the end of March

PRISM Android v3.8.0 includes the following new features.
• Support of informational effects.
• Support of RTMP Overlay.
• Support of Resuming your YouTube streams.
• Improved performance and stability.

Okay, ​I’ll walk you through these new features.

★ Informational Effects

We have prepared an informational effect function in PRISM Android v3.8.0 so that you can clearly inform your viewers in an easier way during live stream :D

You can use the informational effect through the text button in the My Studio menu, which is accessed by swiping left on the screen in LIVE mode.

A total of 24 effects are provided in 5 categories as follows, which include splendid animation effects and allow users to set their own messages.

• 1 title effect (marquee banner)
• 3 screen saver effects
• 5 clock and timer effects
• 7 social effects
• 6 sticker effects

I’ll walk you through each of these :D

The picture on the left is a marquee banner effect included in the title category, and you can use it by setting it anywhere you want on the live stream screen.

The picture on the right shows effects that can be used for various purposes throughout the entire process of your live stream. Each effect has a dynamic animation that will catch the attention of viewers. Also, you can edit the message included in the effect yourself, so please make use of it.

The picture on the left shows the informational effect in the Clock & Timer category. It consists of a countdown effect that can set the count, and effects that can set the clock and timer. The clock effect provides more detailed features, which I will explain in detail later in this post.

The picture on the right shows the seven informational effects added to the Social category. We have been providing a variety of social category effects that can inform streamer SNS information nicely to viewers, but in this update, we have added 7 new effects to that category.

As shown in the picture on the left, in the caption category, there are animation text effects that many streamers have been using. Unfortunately, however, no new effects have been added to the caption category in this update. :’(

Instead, we added a sticker category, as shown in the picture to the right, and added six sticker effects that streamers can edit and overlay on their live streams to suit their needs.

Now I would like to elaborate on some of the individual effects.

First, about the marquee effect. We often see streamers displaying a persistent message to their viewers with marquee banners at the top or bottom of their live stream screens.

Usually, this effect is possible by using a third party web overlay, but we added that feature so that users can use the same functionality within the PRISM app without using a third party service.

These are screen saver effects that cover the entire screen. All of the effects have very beautiful animations, so we strongly recommend that you try them out in our app.

These screensaver effects can be useful when you leave your seat during a live stream or change the flow of a live stream. Besides, you can edit the text inside the effect as you like :)

These are clock and timer effects that many users have been requesting support for. As you can see now, it contains the following 4 functional effects.

• Timer
• Stopwatch
• Current time
• Elapsed time

You can set hours, minutes and seconds in the timer effect. And you can display hours, minutes, seconds and optionally even milliseconds on the stopwatch.

We also offer you a Current time effect that displays the current time and a Elapsed time effect that displays airtime.

When you finish setting each effect, they are registered in the My Studio menu like normal live sources, so you can use them on the live stream screen whenever you need.

Then, adjust and place the effects in an appropriate position and size on your live stream screen, as shown in the picture on the left. :D

★ Support of RTMP Overlay

* This will be included in the Android v3.8.0 scheduled for release in mid-March

In the meantime, many people have requested the usability of overlaying real-time video captured on other devices on the stream of the PRISM mobile app.

Right. There are numerous devices on the market that support RTMP streaming, such as action cams, drones, and digital cameras.

So, we have prepared a function called RTMP Overlay that overlays the RTMP video on the stream received by the PRISM mobile app.

You can use the RTMP Overlay function in the Widget menu of My Studio that appears when you swipe left on the Live Ready screen. If you select ‘RTMP Video Source’ from the function list of the Widget menu, it is automatically added to the My Studio source list.

When you click on the RTMP Overlay source added to the list, it will be placed on the live streaming screen. Once it is placed, it can be resized, repositioned and rotated just like an image overlay. And as soon as that source is placed, the RTMP information that can be streamed to that RTMP Overlay is displayed.

And if you click the RTMP Overlay area or the More button on the source item in My Studio, you can enter the detailed screen of the RTMP video source. You can also check the RTMP information here, so please refer to it.

You can copy the RTMP information from the RTMP video source detail screen. ​Click the share button in the picture below to copy the link or use the app system sharing function.

The RTMP video source details screen provides the following usage guide, so please refer to it.

• Connect to the same WiFi network > Enter the RTMP URL from an external camera > Stream the video > Diplay the recived video on the overlay (excluding audio)

In addition, if the video being streamed exceeds 1080p / 60fps, reception of it may be unstable or the device may lose its RTMP connection in rare cases.

When the video starts streaming from the external device, the ‘Receiving RTMP video’ screen will be displayed for a while as shown below. ​And then, when the RTMP video starts to be processed normally, it is displayed on the live streaming screen and is shown to viewers at the same time.

As I mentioned before you can resize and position the area of the RTMP Overlay. Please place them appropriately and use them.

If the reception of RTMP video is not normal, the app exposes the progress UI or displays the status of disconnected network. In this situation, please use the function again after checking the network environment and device status.

★ Resuming your YouTube streams.

• PRISM iOS will be released at the end of March as v2.10.4 version

Starting from Android v3.8.0, if the YouTube channel has more than 50 subscribers, the feature to resume your previous live streaming to YouTube is supported. Resuming a live stream means starting a new live stream using the same link as the live stream that viewers are currently participating in.​

Here’s how to use it. When you try to end your live stream, a dialog asking whether to keep the YouTube live session will be displayed as shown below. At this time, check the Keep YouTube live session item and click the OK button.

And then, after entering the Live Ready Screen, click the Active & Scheduled Live button shown in the middle left of the Screen. The dialog shown afterwards contains the following two types of live stream lists.

1) List of live streams maintaining the YouTube session (possible to resume with the previous steam link)

2) List of scheduled live streams set in the YouTube Live Dashboard

​If you start a live stream after selecting a live item marked with a yellow Active mark, you will use the resume feature for the previous live stream.

★ Other performance and stability improvements

In addition to the new feature introduced above, the streaming module has been upgraded in PRISM Android v3.8.0, allowing you to enjoy live streaming more stably and with higher quality.
