[Mobile] v2.3.6 Update — Using the event stream for YouTube live streaming

Hello everyone! This is the PRISM Live Studio team :-)

Today, I am super happy to announce the PRISM mobile v2.3.6 update. (Android/iOS)

In this update, we have made changes to YouTube live streaming, which will be offered in a new way from September 1st.

• [Live] Using the event stream for YouTube live streaming.
• Other performance and stability improvements.

So let’s take a closer look, shall we? :-D

★ [Live] Using the event stream for YouTube live streaming.

YouTube provides a dashboard that allows streamers to manage live streaming under the name of YOUTUBE STUDIO. And it includes a Live Control Room as a dedicated menu for live streaming.

  • YouTube > Your channel > CREATE button on the top right > Go live > Live Control Room

YouTube’s new Live Control Room is settling as the official live dashboard, and YouTube live streaming on the PRISM app needs to be changed, and this change took effect on September 1.

To start a new live streaming on YouTube after September 1st, you need to generate a new stream on your channel. And to generate a new stream, you need to visit the stream menu in the Live Control Room in YOUTUBE STUDIO mentioned earlier. (Once you visit the dashboard, a new stream is automatically generated.)

On a phone it can be seen in different proportions.

And if you start and end live streaming, the stream generated before the streaming starts is changed to the finished state, so you cannot use it again. So when you want to start live streaming again, you have to visit the stream menu and generate a new stream again.

After explaining like this, it seems a little more uncomfortable :’-( However, with our PRISM mobile app, you can use this cumbersome process more conveniently. Let’s take a closer look at this.

1. Youtube live streaming in Android app

The PRISM Android app allows you to use YouTube live streaming in the same way as the previous PRISM app. However, in some exceptional cases, the PRISM app may open the YouTube Live Control Room mentioned above through a built-in web view.

In that case, generate a stream by referring to the guided part in the displayed web view, and then continue your live streaming.

2. Youtube live streaming in iOS app

The Prism iOS app has a slightly bigger change than the Android app. Whenever you start streaming live to YouTube, if you don’t have a pre-made stream, you’ll need to visit YouTube’s Live Control Room mentioned above and generate a new one.

However, the PRISM app automatically opens the web view when you start a YouTube live streaming (when you click the Go Live button) to bring up the Live Control Room of YOUTUBE STUDIO so that you can visit the dashboard more conveniently without leaving the PRISM app. At this moment the stream is automatically generated so you can close the popup and continue the live streaming :-)

In some cases, the screen of the Live Control Room may look different from the screenshot shown above. And there may be cases where a specific pop-up dialog is open, and I will explain the two representative pop-ups and the content that needs attention.

1) Welcome pop-up dialog

If this is the first time you approach the Live Control Room, or if it has not been long since, you will see a welcome pop-up dialog as shown below. In this case, be sure to click the NEXT button to close the pop-up dialog.

You have to close the pop-up dialog so that the default generated stream shown above is properly generated and you can start live streaming.

On a phone it can be seen in different proportions.

2) Edit Stream pop-up dialog

There is also another pop-up dialog that is displayed when you access the Live Control Room for the first time. And it is a Edit stream pop-up dialog as shown below.

The Edit stream pop-up dialog is the first step in setting default values for the default generated stream. You don’t have to set the other contents right away, but it is necessary to set whether or not the video is for children, so please make sure to click the SAVE button in the lower right corner after checking the appropriate setting to close the pop-up dialog.

You have to close the pop-up dialog by clicking the SAVE button, so the default generated stream is normally created and you can start live streaming :-)

On a phone it can be seen in different proportions.

If you close the Edit stream pop-up dialog by clicking the X button in the upper right corner, the stream is not properly generated even if you see the page filled with data. In this case, even if you start live streaming in the PRISM app, your broadcast on YouTube will not be exposed to viewers.

However, even if you close the pop-up dialog by clicking the X button, the next time you access the page again, the Edit stream pop-up dialog will be exposed again. In that case, be sure to close the pop-up dialog with the SAVE button.

Today we introduced you to YouTube live broadcasting in a new way from September 1st. As the usability has changed, we ask for your understanding as there may be some troublesome parts for users.

We will continue to work on to ensure that users can enjoy live streaming in a more convenient way. Stay safe and stay healty! Thank you :-)
