A Little Night Music

A Prism & Pen Writing Prompt

When I was in high school band, we did a Mozart piece called “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” which is German for “A Little Night Music.” The idea of “night music” captures my heart. One of my favourite songs is “The Music of the Night” from Phantom of the Opera and it is this idea of the beauty of darkness and night that once again stirs my imagination.

Can you grasp it, sense it, feel it secretly possess you? How does a little night music intersect with the queer experience?

Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar!
And you’ll live as you’ve never lived before

Andrew Lloyd Webber, The Music of the Night
