He dreamt about a beautiful young man falling into a river. It seemed like a dream from a long-gone past, something only imagination could conjure.

At least that’s what he thought until he saw the man with his own eyes, and swiftly fell in love.

“John Antinous Jones?”

I would always shiver when new teachers called my name in class, because most of the time people would expect me to give them a story about it.

The worst part? They would end up finding out that this man turned god in Ancient Rome was a homo, and then the jokes would start.

After a while, it didn’t really bother me anymore. It wasn’t even because I didn’t care about the bullying, because I did, but as I started to feel more comfortable in my own skin, as I grew up and understood myself and the person I am, I started not to pay attention to what others would say about me.

Talking about who Antinous was became something I liked to do, if only to wonder to myself why someone would raise a simple man into a godly figure.

Because I wish there was something like that reserved for my future — of course…
