Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are
Today, it’s more important than ever to be out, proud, and supportive
I’m tired of the silence so I’m going to talk about it. And I want you to talk about it.
— Harvey Milk
Those of us who have been out for years, those of us who spend the lion’s share of our time immersed in community with queer and trans peers, those of us who have already found comfort and refuge under the LGBTQ+ umbrella tend to forget.
There are millions among us who are still struggling to reconcile same-sex attraction, millions hiding and denying their true sexual orientation and/or gender identity, millions wallowing in secret shame and alienation, all the while thinking that is the only way they can protect themselves or their loved ones.
Erroneous assumptions:
Many of us presume that this struggle only persists within the younger generation.
Certainly, queer and trans kids are 100% deserving of our attention and support.
But, this syndrome knows no age limit. In fact, folks from every generation confront this dilemma and every individual circumstance presents its own unique set of challenges.
