Da Vinci, the Last Supper and Sodomy at The Olympics

Are we supposed to make such a big deal out of it?

The Olympic Games in Paris kicked off last Friday with the Opening Ceremony, and they will be the center of the world for the coming weeks. Host countries have often used the games to push the best aspects of themselves for a boost in advertising, which in the case of Paris might seem a little overdone already, but this time they garnered some very bad press right from the start.

Among many others across the world, Fox News blasted a headline on Sunday about how the First Lady of the US praised the ceremony that mocked the Last Supper, which was already a double-down on their coverage of the event, following many other articles and videos on the “mockery” of the famed religious painting by Da Vinci.

Even though the ceremony is an hours-long show, with many different segments and the participation of thousands of athletes from around the world, the one moment when members of the queer community, including drag queens, were sitting at a table, supposedly representing a scene from the Last Supper, was the one that put the organizing committee under fire.
