About (queer) diversity in sport and in the world

A bombastic opening ceremony — at least in my eyes — that was also strongly characterised by diversity. Paris, or rather France, showed the world what it is really like. It showed what is hushed up but must not be concealed.

I’ve read endless criticism of the opening ceremony in the media and social networks (especially X). Above all, the diverse — especially queer — part was what many did not want to see. Could it have been shorter or organised differently? Yes, perhaps. But would that have changed anything?

I myself am not a big fan of diversity being pushed into the public eye. However, I think it’s good when there is a certain presence. Just like in any other field.

Imane Khelif

Imane Khelif is currently under discussion. The Algerian boxer is 25 years old and recently won against her Italian opponent Angela Carini in just 46 seconds in the ring. Now voices have been raised that Imane Khelif has a somewhat more masculine appearance.

The transgender debate was quickly taken up: “Men who compete as women. Cis women would never stand a chance against that anyway.” But is Imane Khelif actually transgender? I did some research and didn’t…
