What do Elon Musk, JK Rowling and Donald Trump have in common?

They’re all being investigated for cyber harassment due to their role in the online witch hunt of Imane Khelif, after the Algerian boxer and Olympic gold medalist made a complaint to French authorities.

The investigation is reportedly being handled by France’s National Center for the Fight Against Online Hatred and the Central Office for the Fight Against Crimes Against Humanity and Hate Crimes, according to Variety.

Musk and Rowling are accused of “acts of aggravated cyber harassment”, including “cyber harassment due to gender”, “public insult because of gender”, “public incitement to discrimination” and “public insult because of origin”.

Prosecutors can investigate anyone they believe to be involved in spreading misinformation and harassing Khelif, with Donald Trump also mentioned by Khelif’s lawyer.

If charged, Rowling, Musk, Trump and others could stand trial and face between two to five years in prison and tens of thousands in fines.
