The modern necessity of being connected to the internet — via smart phone, computer, TV, whatever — leaves every one of us vulnerable to an unrelenting barrage of commercials.
In 2024, America spent an estimated $322B on advertising. The conceiving of it, the creation of it, and the distribution of it. All for the purpose of persuading consumers like you and me to behave in a certain way… in most cases, by purchasing a certain product.
On behalf of pharmaceuticals, motor vehicles, insurance policies, fast food, junk food, wrinkle erasers, diet programs, you name it, advertisers compete to grab our attention and stimulate our cravings. It’s a never-ending gamble that we’ll depart with our hard-earned cash or go into deeper debt to own or taste or wear or drive whatever they’re hawking.
