I Will Continue To Tell My Gay Stories

The words of my history are important to others!

As I was coming out in the 80s and 90s and becoming a fully realized gay man (formerly known as homosexual), one of the complaints about the LGBTQIA+ community was, “Why do you need to wave a flag in front of everyone’s face about what you do in the bedroom?”

This could be paired with the often-heard, “Why is there a Gay PRIDE Month (June)? There isn’t a Straight PRIDE Month? And while both of those devaluations of the LGBTQIA+ community could be argued, the answer is simple.

As long as people, families, employers, landlords, organizations, cities, states, countries, religions, etc, continue to discriminate, separate, and deny the rights of human beings because of whom they love, which which gender they identify, etc. we need to bring awareness and education to light.

Over time, we have seen so many of the hard-earned rights reversed, attempted to be reversed, not reinforced, and in many ways ignored or denied due to whatever belief systems people carry. (Might I say inappropriately?) And it seems today we are in a big danger of this happening.

Gays, lesbians, bisexual people, and transgender people continue to face discrimination, rejection, physical and mental abuse, and even death. How much of…
