I first met Tom and Vincent eight years ago at my three-bedroom rental in Jersey City. Vincent showed up first on his bike, his arms well muscled, veins poppin’ in all the right places. He stopped short right in front of me, hopping off like a jaguar.

He looked impeccable in his workout gear, and something stupid came out of my mouth like, Wow, you’re fit.

Vincent laughed, why, thank you!

He and his partner Tom loved the apartment and decided to apply. They lived a few blocks away in a condo they were selling and invited me over. We want you to see how we live, we are very tidy. I looked at Vincent and wondered if his tracksuit was ironed? I had no doubt they were spic and span. Still, they invited me over for some homemade margaritas and to see how immaculate they were. Who was I to say no?

The condo was showroom spotless. I approved their application and strongly suggested them to the landlord, John. It doesn’t get much better than this.
