Just watched “La Vie En Rose”

I just finished the movie “La Vie En Rose,” the story of Edith Piaf, a French singer (born Édith Giovanna Gassion; 19 December 1915 — 10 October 1963) best known for performing songs in the cabaret and modern chanson genres. She is widely regarded as France’s greatest popular singer and one of the most celebrated performers of the 20th century.

I have watched the movie a fair number of times, and each time the tears flow, the sobs arrive, and the feeling of dark despair, on her behalf, settles over me. A good part of her life was uplifting, joyful, and full of love, but somehow, she was still so sad in general and was physically abusive of her body using drugs and alcohol, and ended up dying a sad death.

The song “Je Ne Regrette Rien arrived late in her life (when she was 46 years old.) She died at the age of 47. She was quite ill by that time and had suffered many debilitating episodes that racked her body and, at times, her…
