From all the conversations I’ve had with transgender and cisgender people, there is always a part where the focus is on empathy.

“What would it be like if I had to wear that person’s shoes?”

I started playing with the concept. Below is just a very brief sampling of my thoughts based on those conversations.

Please comment with some of your own experiences and thoughts.

The first pair of shoes:

Thomas tossed off the blankets as he quietly hopped out of bed and walked out of their bedroom in the predawn darkness. He could hear the sound of his wife’s light snoring behind him.

The last week of raw emotional battling with Ann capped off an entire year of deep internal turmoil he had suffered as he tried to come to terms with his gender dysphoria.

The last doctor confirmed what a string of psychiatrists, psychologists, and miscellaneous other doctors had already diagnosed…

He was, in fact, a transgender female.

All this conflicted with his obvious male physical anatomy and decades of male socialization.
