MI Senators Peters and Stabenow: LGBTQ+ People Are Not Going Back!
If you throw trans people under the bus, I will vote against you and campaign publicly for your defeat.
Dear Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow,
The two of you represent me in the United States Senate, and I’m happy about that. I feel that your values closely align, most of the time, with my own. As an older gay man in western Michigan, I’m happy to have the opportunity to vote for and support politicians like you — leaders I believe are on the side of the angels.
I recognize that politics is often a game of compromise, of striving for the possible rather than the perfect, so I usually don’t sweat our minor philosophical differences. But I’m taking this opportunity today to stake out a line in the sand. I hope (and trust!) you’ll take my message as bracing encouragement rather than as a hypothetical rebuke.
As you well know, LGBTQ people, especially transgender people, are being fronted by some Democratic leaders as responsible for Donald Trump’s recent victory at the polls, and for the loss of the Democratic majority in the Senate.
Some Democratic leaders are already throwing trans people under the bus — over something they are not responsible for…
