Health care has no place in public schools.

Mental health care is health care Mr. President. That’s why it has NO place in public schools.

Warning: brief mention of suicidal thoughts.

Could this even be true? Are right-wing, conservative Christian parents really calling for an end to health care in public schools? What part of right-wing ideology, what part of the Christian ethos, calls for withholding care from children in need? A story I read last week about “Moms for Liberty” and a Florida school district rocked me back on my heels — because I used to be that kid who needed healthcare at school.

When I think about health care in public schools, I remember it (and the teachers who helped me get it) with enormous gratitude.

We were poor when I was a kid, especially after my dad quit his job to become a Baptist pastor — not a slick megachurch pastor, the regular kind who NEEDS that parsonage because otherwise he’d never make rent.
