Andy Stanley — not homophobic enough

Andy Stanley, pastor of North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia, is in hot water again with the anti-LGBTQIA+ conservative Christians who just cannot stand to see anyone show even a modicum of anything kinder than contempt for LGBTQIA+ people.

I wrote about Stanley back in January, when he said LGBTQIA+ people who still want to attend church “after the way they’ve been treated … have more faith than I do. They have more faith than a lot of you.” Christian Post Executive Editor Richard D. Land called this “troubling” and “astounding,” apparently unable to comprehend LGBTQIA+ people having faith.

This week, Derek Paul, Executive Pastor of Identify Ministries and Network Director of the Transformation Ministries Alliance, declared that the recent “conference [at Stanley’s church at the end of September 2023] demonstrates a rebellion from foundational principles and tenets that give the Christian faith its Christian distinction.”

The Unconditional Conference took place at North Point Community church, and Paul calls it “his conference,” meaning Stanley’s. However, it’s not…
