This prompt is/isn’t about the Olympics!

Have you been watching the athletic excellence on display in Paris? Did you know WAY more out queer athletes are competing in this year’s Summer Games than ever in history? And when I say OUT, I mean loud and proud. You might not have heard of the gay rower Robbie Manson pictured above, but he’s funding his Olympics bid with a risqué OnlyFans account.

That would not have been possible when I was young!

Back then, many queer people didn’t pursue athletic excellence because if we were out, we were often made to feel unwelcome or even unsafe in locker rooms and on the field.

But that doesn’t mean we didn’t pursue excellence in sport and/or elsewhere. Some of the most excellent, accomplished people I’ve ever met were out as queer!

And that’s the theme for our new Prism & Pen writing prompt.
