He was a drab boy,
cloaked in a grey mood,
always looking down.
His teachers wondered if it was his home life,
His parents, divorced at a time he could no longer recall,
wondered what was wrong at school.
He knew it was himself,
a part of him he could not allow to be seen,
a part of him that could not escape.
They would mock him,
hurl insults,
throw fists.
He understood the incapacity of humanity
to deal with the unexpected.

Even if it is a rainbow.
