If you’re chronically online like me or you just keep up with the constantly evolving meme culture, you’ll be familiar with the “demure” meme that was all over Tiktok and Instagram this summer.

On August 2nd, Tiktok creator Jools Lebron posted the viral video of “How to be demure at work”, featuring the famous catchphrase “Very demure, very mindful” for the first time. On August 6th, she followed up with a similar video with the popular catchphrase, racking up about 50 million views.

The Internet did its thing, and the “demure” meme blew up, with every major influencer, Internet personality and even famous brands participating in the “demure” trend. Even the White House got in on the trend with a post on its official Instagram account! I don’t know who their social media manager is, but they need a raise!

Because of this intense virality, the original creator Jools Lebron became Internet-famous, basically overnight.
