Easy as shooting fish in a barrel? Hope not.

I’ve never had much interest in space exploration. Never dreamed of being an astronaut. Nor had Harry, as far I as knew. In twenty years on the job together, the subject hadn’t once come up. Yet here we were, about to enter an experimental Mars Habitat.

They’d given Harry and me two days. “Get in, get it sorted, and get out.”

Once we were inside the Habitat, things heated up fast. Whoever we were after had already made one attempt to stop our investigation.

But here we were, in a darkened storage room, unpacking assembly bots.

Third crate in, we struck pay dirt. Harry shone his light down the length of the robotic arm. Gave it an experimental push. The arm pivoted smoothly, but the end was bent out of true. And stained brownish red.

“Looks like blood to me, Boss.”

Looked like blood to me too. “Better get Hansen down here.”

Harry headed for the control room while I started on the next crate. I heard a sound behind me. “Back already”

Something hit me hard across the shoulders. Drove me to my knees. My head smacked the front…
