The Frontlines of Education: Teachers Under Fire

“Wars are won by teachers.”

If this megalomaniac dictator is correct — and history has shown time and again that he is — then public school teachers are truly on the frontlines. This is why moves to gut protections for public education, especially for marginalized students, should concern every single one of us.

In his first week back in office, President Trump has taken actions that could significantly impact our education system. Notably, he issued an executive order that reverses previous efforts to extend Title IX discrimination protections to transgender students, now defining U.S. policy to recognize only two sexes.

Additionally, the administration has eliminated the “book ban coordinator” position within the Department of Education and dismissed complaints regarding the removal of certain literature from public schools. Perhaps most troubling, new policies have begun targeting immigrant and refugee children, making it harder for them to access public education and…
