The Road Ahead: A Closeted Gay Teen’s life in the ’70s Midwest

Summer 1974, Rufus and Chaka Khan’s “Tell Me Something Good” playing on my Chevy Bel-Air’s AM radio on a humid Ohio afternoon. Windows rolled down, I carefully traversed the winding two-lane highway that took me from suburban Beachwood to far-off Aurora and the new theme park east of Cleveland on the shores of Geauga Lake, SeaWorld Ohio.
