Who Cares If I Am Transgender

It has taken years to overcome my lifetime ignorance and blind rejection of my gender. I now know with absolute certainty that my gender is transgender female.

Yes, I know I am not a biological female and I am OK with that.

But many people aren’t happy that I even exist.

They want to take away my rights, my healthcare, my safety and, sadly, some would like to take my life.

I am sorry that their world is so narrow. I am even sorrier if their hate justifies their violence towards me, that politicians can use that hate for votes, that religions use that hate to fill the empty seats of their churches and the media uses that hate to sell advertising.

Their hate is so shallow.

They don’t know me. They seem to go out of their way to find the extreme individuals at the fringes of our transgender community instead having an intelligent dialogue with the vast majority of our community that are, well…

…normal.

How tragic that we are damned by their militant ignorance and exploited for votes and money.
