Everything in this post is inspired by a blog post titled Regrets of the Dying by Bronnie Ware

The 2nd regret

  • The 2nd highest regret of the dying was I wish I hadn’t worked so hard, according to Bronnie Ware’s famous blog post the titled Regrets of the Dying
  • According to the post, this specific regret came from all the male patients she took care of. They missed the young years of their children’s lives and the companionship of their partners.

Why this matters to working women

  • From my understanding men were more susceptible to this regret because they were the breadwinners and "many of the female patients had not been breadwinners”
  • Now that women are more active in the workforce, earn more and have more responsibilities outside the home, it is important for them to be intentional about creating time to spend with their children and loved ones, just as men need to do to prevent this regret.
  • I know it can be difficult, but through social media we can get inspiration from women in high stakes, high income roles with busy schedules that have been able to fit in time to spend with their children and loved ones.

Conclusion with a quote from Bronnie’s blog post

  • “All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence. By simplifying your lifestyle and making conscious choices along the way, it is possible to not need the income that you think you do. And by creating more space in your life, you become happier and more open to new opportunities, ones more suited to your new lifestyle.”
