If 2018 was the year of “fake news” and data hacks. Then, 2019 is going to be the year that we take back our privacy. Here at Dust, we believe that your voice has power, and only YOU should control it. We want our users to speak freely — free from worry of prying eyes, data mining, and the paranoia that your words could come back to haunt you. In sum, freedom for everything that makes you, YOU.

When Mark (Cuban) and I first set out on this mission back in 2014, privacy wasn’t cool yet. Now fast forward to 2019, data privacy has become the buzzword of the year. It’s time to use that momentum to elevate Dust in a way that shows our user base that not only do we care about your digital privacy, but we believe it’s a basic human right that deserves to be protected in the digital world.

The truth is…

Social media monopolies (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) were a part of the select few that relished in the public misconception that your data is worth nothing and was never yours to begin with. In case you missed the memo from last year data is at the center of every foreign policy debate. We saw how other countries are capable of maliciously using an individual’s digital footprint to manipulate an entire democratic system. For those reasons and more, we decided to reshape our private messaging app, Dust, to be The World’s Most Secure Messenger with a defiant personality that’s ready to propel the privacy movement in 2019!

When we first started this mission, we built Dust with the goal of giving ownership over the conversation back to the user. Unlike other platforms that store data on hard disk, Dust stores all messages in memory (RAM). This makes it several orders of magnitude more difficult for a malicious party to gain access to any message data and renders the data forensically unrecoverable from the platform’s servers once it’s been deleted. As a result, Dust provides users with a private platform that is designed to be impenetrable to prying eyes.

Now we’re ready to take it to the next level with our new brand identity with a look and feel that privacy advocates deserve! With that said, I’m proud to unveil the ethos that will get us there.

Starting with our core values:

PEOPLE: Our north star. People always come first — both our users and our team members.

PRIVACY: It’s a fundamental human right. Our everyday conversations shouldn’t be exploited, sold, or shared.

FREEDOM: True freedom is speaking your mind without worrying if it will be broadcasted to the world.

AWARENESS: Like I’ve said before #PrivacyMatters. Giving away control of our conversations has consequences.

Purpose

Our purpose for 2019 is to destroy what’s not working for the good of others. At times, we may seem rebellious in our strategy but it’s all in an effort to create a radical revolution to take back our privacy. Because privacy isn’t just for people with something to hide, it’s a 21st century epidemic that affects all of us. The internet has become an institution of overreach so we want you to look at Dust as the unapologetic champion of humanity prepped & ready to lead the charge!

Moving Forward

It is my mission to communicate trust across all products, services, relationships, and conversations that I help create. Our team is fortunate to have a supportive community that stands behind our philosophy and vision, and we are excited for the upcoming months as we continue to optimize Dust and unveil our consumer token portal. I am personally committed to ensuring you are having the best experience possible. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at ryanozo@usedust.com.
