After 36 years, no cheers
Women’s hockey could not bring cheers to fans back home. India lost its last pool match to former World champions Argentina 0–5, conceding all goals in the second quarter, two through penalty corners and the rest field goals. India ended winless earning its solitary point from the drawn game against Japan. India’s return to Olympic hockey after 36 years did not bring any cheers. Rather, at times it got its lessons of international hockey from rivals like Australia, Argentina, and even the US. Our girls lack gusto, courage and even some of basic skills to play their more confident rivals. At times girls looked leg weary, feeble in pushes and hits and slow in interceptions. A lot needs to be done before they can be a major challenge to their opponents in events like Olympics and World Cup. Anyways cheers girls for you gave your best.
