When should humanitarian impulses be weighed with competing realities?

Why is a humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza? When could Gaza have become a thriving small paradise on the edge of the sea, instead of a stronghold for a terrorist threat intent on killing Jews and erasing Israel?

Gaza was territory captured in a war. The war was initiated when Arab nations attacked Israel and Israel won. Twenty odd years later Israel withdrew completely from Gaza.

What prevented the people in Gaza from establishing new businesses, building better infrastructure, educating youth and creating general welfare for their common good? The ‘leaders’ whose objectives were the erasure of Israel and the killing of Jews.

Now decades later the people of Gaza are still at the mercy of these so called leaders. They have been hampered in creating a general welfare of health and prosperity. These leaders have now brought upon the heads of the Gazans a new war.

Who is now responsible to care for the people of Gaza and their welfare?

When in world history have warring entities extended humanitarian aid to the enemy during the war?

“Protecting civilians is a central mission for UN peacekeepers.” Should Israel take on the responsibility ceded to the UN? Has the UN been successful in this role? Is Israel being held to a different standard?

When should humanitarian impulses be weighed against competing realities? How?
