Avoid easy at all cost

“Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” — Numbers 14:3

The children of Israel said this on their way to the Promised Land. The field report they just heard brought tangible examples of the wealth ahead, but also descriptions of the mammoth enemies they had to get through first. Strong, dangerous problems on the journey to the promised blessings.

“Wouldn’t it be easier to just not do this and go back to where we were?”

We will always naturally move toward easy, safe, and known. We will always naturally avoid the potential pain, even when there is contractual obligation that we’ll receive blessing. The reality is that we’ll always move toward a place where we seem to have a sense of control. That sense of control makes us feel safe. It feels easier.

But relationships aren’t easy.
Integrity isn’t easy.
Humility isn’t easy.
Mission isn’t easy.
Community isn’t easy.
Gospel isn’t easy.

Jesus moves away from easy and safe toward difficult and dangerous. Not because the end goal is the difficult and dangerous but those are the avenues you have to take to get to the blessing.

Some things that we label as “best” aren’t really best…they’re just easier.

Being part of a community for mission isn’t easy, but it’s awesome.

Avoid easy.
Keep moving forward.
Do the hard work.
Fulfill the obligation.
Have the difficult conversation.
Be faithful.
At all cost — avoid easy.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Gal 6
