The book I would pay you to read
The company I work for does a “Read for Cash” program every summer where we get .15 a page up to $200 for every leadership/business type book that we read. To participate is indeed a no-brainer.
If I could afford it, I’d pay everyone I know to read the book I finished yesterday, “Leadership and Self-Deception” by the Arbinger Institute. This is the first book I’ve read in a long time that has profoundly challenged, unsettled, motivated, encouraged, and convicted me. The name is slightly misleading, as the book would be a huge benefit for anyone, whether or not you are in a leadership role.
YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!
Leadership and Self Deception powerfully gets to the heart of community dynamics: unpacking how we view others, how we view ourselves, and why we do what we do in relationships. There is no evidence that the authors were trying to dissect “Love your neighbor as yourself” when writing , but I couldn’t help but think of that axiom as I was reading.
The book is written in a “business narrative/fable” style that is somewhat popular today. Though I’m not a big fan of that approach, the core message is solid and what got to me. Whether you are single or married, a boss or an employee, a parent or child, or whatever other combination of human interaction there is, please…read…this…book!!!
I can’t pay you to do it. But don’t let that stop you.
We all are in the box. And we all need to live out of it.
