A part of our Design System

I wanted to share some great design systems that inspired us when we decided to build our own one at Crème de la Crème. Because building a design system is something very personal, don’t just reproduce a good one you found. Find several ones, note what you like in them, what you don’t like and then, create yours.

Atlassian

Definitely one of my favorite. If you use some Atlassian tools you’ll agree that the recent redesign is quite modern and clean. It is also interesting to keep in mind that they scaled this design system to all Atlassian products.

What I liked: That each component is detailed and explained.

Shopify

Polaris as they call it, is probably one of the most complete. Much more than a simple design system, it defines the guidelines, the design rules but also the content ones, and that’s really interesting.

In addition to that, the design system is displayed on a amazingly beautiful dedicated website 😍

What I liked: The fact that the copywriting is included.

Pinterest

Same as Shopify, this design system is very complete. No the most beautiful but efficient. Moreover, it’s very nice to be able to test components directly on the site or in the playground.

What I liked: The preview and live example for each component.

Zendesk

Zendesk Garden is the definition of a simple design system.

What I liked: The detail level, they mapped every state of every component. Here is a significant exemple (try the settings button on the top-right corner).

Github

The last one is Primer, the design system of Github. It is a perfect example of team collaboration system. With Primer, you are able to find information about the marketing sites rules, the graphic rules and the design/code components.

What I liked: The way they display both the design and the code for each component.
