Example of poor design - Saddle Seat

Airbus purposed a new design and structure of commercial airplane seating. Aviointeriors took this concept and created the design for the saddle seat. I think this is a great example of a poor design. They decided to design a seating product for airline’s that would focus on maximizing the number of passengers that could fit on a plane. This would reduce the cost of flying(or increase the profit of the airline) in return. The seats were presented at the 2010 Americas Aircraft Interiors Expo. They were not received well for obvious reasons. When you think about who flies you should be thinking about a variety of weight classes and sizes of people. While it is unlikely that an airplane seat will satisfy all types of people you should be able to accommodate the majority of regular airplane costumers. As an airline passenger I think that this is a horrifying idea. It removes all comfort and feeling of personal space when flying. What is good for the airlines is not necessarily good for their costumers. The product was not well received after its grand unveiling and has still not passes FAA certification in the last 7 years. It is not usable by most passengers but I do believe it’s meaning was understood. They don’t care about people’s comfort.
