Bad Design of Push-Based Doors

I think one thing that is poorly designed is handles on most push doors. The action invites users to grasp the handle and we associate with action of grasping and pulling. However, when we look to push something away, we look for something that has a flat surface that can be a base for open handed palms. This leads to a lot of people pulling on push-based doors, which leads to a lot of frustration and confusion. I think the reason behind this design is that individuals associate a door with a handle. If the handle is removed, then the object is not readily recognized as a door.
