Thanks for stopping by to find out a little bit more about me.
My name is Jamie Hylands and I am originally from Northern Ireland although have managed to notch up quite a few countries on my belt since first leaving aged 19. I currently live just outside of Edinburgh, Scotland with my wife and daughters.
At the heart of it, I am a strategic designer who is at his best with sleeves rolled up, helping teams and organisations to use design as a way to explore the big questions they face in developing and improving their businesses.
When I first got involved with design almost a decade ago, it was to help further my burgeoning music career but when I realised that I spent more time designing and re-designing websites than I did concentrating on songwriting, I figured a new career was choosing me, not the other way around.
From there I spent the early part of my career in Events Management and Photo editing before landing my first Digital Agency gig in 2011 as a UX Producer.
In a way that kick-started two new phases of my life — the introduction of designing for business and commerce, working on projects for big organisations such as Highland Spring, Sainsbury’s Bank and The Scottish Government; and a peek behind the curtains of the startup world, a place that has intrigued me every since.
Since late 2013 I have been running my own design and strategy studio, Manaseven, working with creative agencies and early-stage startups to bring them forward-thinking and affordable UX/Design/Strategy services.
In my spare time, I am a perennial startup hacker and love dreaming up solutions to interesting problems that intersect my life: from FundPod, the crowd-funding equity platform for Music fans to Tillr, the eCommerce kiosk app for gigging musicians.
I am always open to new opportunities, be that contracted or full-time but we must share one common philosophy — great design can change the world.
