Rapid Resume Review: B2B SaaS Product Manager
Part of our role as Recruiters is to represent our candidates in the best possible light. Thus, we often offer resume reviews to help candidates build a resume that better highlights their skills and accomplishments.
Meet Tanya! Tanya is a new Canadian with experience as a B2B SaaS Product Manager. Watch this video as our Product Practice lead offers practical ideas to make Tanya’s resume more relevant and impactful for the North American market.
Most candidates who relocate to different parts of the world quickly learn that their resume style, format and content are no longer relevant to the new market. It often requires reimagining.
Here are our top 3 tips to help reimagine a resume for the North American job market:
Keep it to 2 or 3 pages
Keep your resume short and concise. Many European resumes are 5–10 pages long, but due to ‘recency bias’, North American employers are more likely to only look for your most recent work experiences — so just include those.
Use bullet points
One reason European resumes are so long is because many people write long narratives in paragraphs. Employers in North America tend to scan resumes quickly, focusing on accomplishments and outcomes. By using bullet points, you allow the hiring manager to easily identify your outcomes.
Describe your employer’s business product
Provide one sentence for each employer on your resume, summarizing their business and product.
Just as in Tanya’s situation, Recruiters or employers may not be familiar with your previous employers so help the hiring manager reviewing your resume quickly understand what the business is, and what their products/solutions do. Avoid adding the friction of them having to Google to figure it out.
