After 10 years, iPhone never ceases to amaze customers
Today marks the 10th year since Steve Jobs introduced iPhone to the world. In a time when selfies weren’t a thing, music streaming was not around, mobile data wasn’t sufficient enough to stream movies, and apps were non-existent, iPhone still captured the minds of the people. Today, it still continues to do so.
What mobile phone was I using then?
Its pretty exciting to go back into the memory lane and think how it was 10 years back. I was using a HTC Touch Cruise Windows Mobile phone. Boy that was an experience!
At that time, iPhone was an expensive device and I was pretty much convinced it will fail. I was wrong. Today, we know who won and who lost (thats a separate conversation though).
What was so special about this iPhone?
My first iPhone was iPhone 3GS and it was a magical experience to not only own one but also use it. I mean, when comparing to Windows Mobiles (like the HTC Touch Cruise), iPhone 3GS was smooth, intuitive and powerful. It didn’t require a stylus as other Windows Phones did.
Steve Jobs video introducing the iPhone is still considered to be one of the best presentations to watch.
I almost feel every product manager out there should watch the video to understand how Steve introduces the new unseen experiences to the audience. No doubt he was a charismatic leader!
While there were many features, if you could remember, that grasped our attention, I think the ones below just blew away the competition and pushed everyone to get an iPhone.
Keyboard and typing was natural and magical.
The call screen was magical.
Scrolling was flawless and magical.
The lock screen with a beautiful wallpapers was magical.
Cover flow was magical.
Pinch and zoom was magical.
Maps was magical.
I for one can’t wait to see whats iPhone 8 is going to be. Tim Cook has indeed promised (as he always does) that:
