What podcasts should you be listening to? Here’s your list, product managers.

I commute from Denver to Boulder for work, which takes about an hour door-to-door each way. Which means, I listen to a lot of podcasts.

Here’s my carefully curated Top 5 list of podcasts for product managers.

How I Built This

This is a podcast “about innovators, entrepreneurs, and idealists, and the stories behind the movements they built.” It’s great for hearing about how big, well-known companies got their start, and the product decisions they made to get there.

I find this podcast inspirational and really fun to listen to.

Product Popcorn

This is a product management podcast for those who don’t want to fall asleep listening to a product management podcast. Two hosts (Spoiler: I’m one of them!) talk tech-related topics and often have other product managers from bit tech companies as guests.

Recent episodes talk about customer insights, breaking into product, interviews with designers and developers, and machine learning.

Bonus: The intro is typically fun, but once on topic, you’ll always learn something.

Future Visions (by Virgin)

Future Visions aims to answer the question that I’m thinking about way too often: Will robots steal our jobs!?

Other topics: How will shopping feel in virtual reality? Can we use AI to fight crime? Is the future female?

Although on the periphery of product management, I find the topics helpful, especially if you work with a product that incorporates AI or machine learning.

Freakonomics

While not directly related to product management, this podcast often helps you think through incentives and pricing strategies.

This is Product Management

I have mixed feelings about this podcast, since it’s kind of dry. It does divulge useful information, but sometimes I don’t make it all the way through. It’s produced by Alpha which is a product management and insights platform, so it does have a little bit of a corporate feel.

Still, the interviewees always have some nuggets or useful information, and I find myself learning something every week.

That’s my Top 5!
Happy product management podcast listening!
