PM Interview | Estimation | SF Restaurants

This is part of a personal challenge to become a better interviewer and problem solver.

Question: How many restaurants are there in San Francisco?

Learnings:

• The candidate used how often people eat out as a basis to their guests.
• They also took a proportion of the population and gauged their behavior.
• They estimated the number of tables in a reataurant and how often they “turn” them (eg. 2.5 times a day, lunch, dinner and some other reason).
• They also cross-checked their estimate with a surface based estimation using teh surface of San Francisco, how many blocks there are and how many restaurants per block (about 1 for every 5 blocks).
