How well you answer the questions in a job interview decides whether you get in or not. Likewise, some answers help you decide whether you want to join a company or not.

By asking the right questions, you can make the interviewer feel that you’re knowledgeable as well as interested in knowing more about the organization. This definitely increases your chances of getting hired.

Thing is, being inquisitive in a job interview not only helps you collect valuable information about the company, but it also makes you stand out from the crowd.

So get your notepad out and start taking down the ten questions you must ask your interviewer:

1. “What skills and expertise are you looking for?”

It helps you find out the required set of qualifications, thereby helping you decide whether you fit in or not.

2. “How do you see this position evolve in the next three months?”

This gives you an idea about your roles and responsibilities, and if you’re willing to take those up.

3. “What will be the short-term goals of the person in this position?”

It helps analyze what you need to focus on, and where your priorities should be in the future.

4. “What do you love about your job?”

If you want to stick to your job for longer, you need to be sure that the work environment is positive. No better way to find out than speaking to people who work there.

5. “How do you see the company growing in the next couple of months?”

This helps you know where the company is headed to, and how joining the team can have a positive impact on your career graph.

6. “How would you describe the company’s culture?”

Having a fair idea of the overall atmosphere is important before joining a new workplace. It helps you find out if it’s favourable or not.

7. “Who held this position previously?”

Getting an idea of the reason for him not being there; whether he quit, retired or was fired indirectly tells you if people stick around in this company, or they leave early due to bad policies or bosses.

8. “What are the challenges I’m likely to face if I join this position?”

To get an idea of the possible challenges that you’ll be facing on a daily basis is an important factor that will help you decide if you want to join or not.

9. “Who will I be working with?”

You can ask this question only if you’re sure to get in, otherwise there’s no point asking it. If your interview goes well, make this your final question.

10. “What are the next steps in the selection process?”

This shows that you’re confident about getting the job and interested in taking the candidature further, thus leaving a positive impact on the interviewers.
