Road trips unleash the wanderlust in us. There’s a sense of living life on the edge as we pass through rocky terrains, extreme climate conditions, narrow passages of a cliff that gives one an adrenaline rush. It breaks monotony and brings in a new passion to life. If you’re an adventure fanatic, then here’s a list of 10 road trips in India that you must take.

Manali to Leh Highway

The journey takes about 2 days with one stopover for rest and acclimatization. It spans a length of 479 km with a mean altitude in between 3 to 4 km above sea level. The road is open for about 5 months a year mostly during summers and mid October.

Mumbai to Goa

The road trip between Mumbai and Goa needs no introduction. Driving on National Highway 17 is a pleasure and the picturesque route has several food joints to cater to your food cravings. It approximately is 604 km and takes about 10 hours.

Jaipur to Ranthambore

The distance is about 145 km and should take you about 3 hours of an afternoon well spent. Take State Highway 24 for a scenic route. You can stop by at Bassi Wildlife sanctuary as well.

Bangalore to Munnar

The Bangalore to Munnar road trip is revered for keeping travelers fresh by the lush greenery of expansive tea gardens. The route has various food joints at regular intervals that entice you to stop by and have a bite.

Guwahati to Tawang

The distance is about 520 km and should take you about 10 hours. It’s challenging, yet spread across an extremely beautiful terrain.

Shillong to Cherrapunji

The trip will take you about 1–2 hours approximately. This is a popular stretch of about 53 km. This one has a lot to offer from drizzles, waterfalls, caves, villages and a beautiful view from your window. You will find stops for food along the way.

Shimla to Manali via Kinnaur and Spiti

The stretch is longish and you can cover it in 3–4 days time. You can stop over at Rampur as the first stop. Shimla to Rampur is around 130 km and the roads are decent till this point.

Puri to Konark on the NH-203

This short stretch of 36 km can be covered in about an hour and makes for a memorable road trip. The Puri-Konark highway is one of those beautiful roads.

Gangtok to Lake Tsomgo and Nathu-La Pass

This stretch is about 55 km long with the Lake Tsomgo falling on the route at around 39 km from Gangtok. It leaves you with an unmatched road trip experience.

Visakhapatnam to Araku Valley

The road spans about 116 km. There are interesting places like Borra caves and Tatipudi Reservoir on the way. The best time to visit the region is between October and March.
