Our travels are best enjoyed when we have the essentials, otherwise it can turn into an irritating experience. These items make a huge difference if you want to have a comfortable and safe trip. We’re usually so excited about our trip that we sometimes forget to carry the most basic items. Like the last time, I visited a beach, I forgot to carry my sunglasses and really it irked me, until someone generously had me borrow their extra pair.
It is important to remember that safety comes first, so make sure you carry these essentials without fail.
Copy of your travel documents
This helps in case you misplace or lose your documents. This is your safety net and your ticket to getting back home without major hassles.
Comfortable clothing/footwear
This is a must, check the weather of the destination you’re headed to, carry clothes and footwear that complements the weather.
Portable charger
You don’t want to run out on battery on your phone or iPad while you’re trying to figure the route, searching for a restaurant or making that important international call.
Good playlist / books
This is as important as anything else on this list. The whole idea of traveling is to have a good time, so while you’re moving from one destination to another, this could be one of the best ways to while away time.
Phone / Camera
This the most essential as you need to have your phone to make those emergency calls or are looking for a restaurant, place etc. and the camera to capture beautiful moments of your travels.
Maps
Make sure you have a copy of a map of the places you’re planning to visit. You can’t rely on technology always. Just a little back-up.
Extra money
Some extra money comes always in handy. So keep it safe in a different place, apart from the money you intend to spend. This is for emergency.
Medicines / First-aid kit
You never know when you start feeling a little under the weather; carry all the medicines you may require. Medicines for fever, headache, nausea, food poisoning. Better safe than sorry.
Swiss-army-knife
A multipurpose knife helps you in so many ways. You’d thank yourself for taking it along with you. It is your friend that’ll help you open cans, cut ropes, etc. It can also be used for self defense.
Memory cards and batteries
If you want to take extra pictures and you should be able to. The whole point of traveling is to capture beautiful moments that we can reflect back on later. So carry extra memory cards and batteries to make that possible.
List of emergency contact numbers
Have a list of important contact numbers and also list down addresses. Keep at least two copies of this piece of information in your bag and wallet.
Toilette essentials
Maintaining hygiene is as important as having a safe trip. Carry all the toilette essentials you need: paste, brush, deodorant, hand sanitizer etc.
A Warm Jacket / Sunglasses / Sunscreen
Weather is unpredictable. It can get extremely cold or the opposite, be prepared for it anyway.
