Don’t whittle away your free time on Facebook. Here’s how to make it work for you.

Do you feel like you never have time for anything? That you would like to utilize your free time much better to make the most of it? Your time needn’t be wasted in mundane tasks. Here’s how to use it effectively.

1. Wake up early.

Waking up early isn’t just great because you get more hours in a day. It’s also the only time you can work undisturbed, spend some solitary time and feel at one with nature. It makes you feel more productive and helps you get much more accomplished in a single day.

2. Plan your day.

Planning and organizing really helps to make the most of the little time you have. Effective time management ensures that you get so much more done in the course of the day, than you would have normally.

3. Learn a new skill.

Use your free time to do something that’s fun but also productive, like learning a new language, taking up dance classes, or playing an instrument.

4. Always keep a book or something to keep yourself occupied with.

Life is full of distractions and things that waste our time- that long line at the cashier’s, waiting before an appointment, being stuck in a traffic jam. In order to make the most of the time you have, keep something to occupy yourself at times like these. You could read that new book you’ve been meaning to but didn’t have the time to, or solve a crossword to exercise your brain. In the era we live in, you can carry almost the whole world in a smartphone, so it’s not hard to keep a book, or two with you.

5. Keep a diary to jot down things in.

Our brains tend to wander the most when we are doing mundane tasks. Those brilliant ideas you have in the shower, or on the commute to work, don’t deserve to be wasted. As soon as they occur to you, jot them down. You can also use your free time to fine tune these ideas.

6. Finish that book.

8 out of 10 people say that, given a chance, they would love to write a book. If you’re one of them, why not work on your book in your free time? You might be too busy to write a whole book, but surely you can start documenting little things in those free minutes you get? A little everyday, adds up to a lot. Who knows, in five years you could have that book ready for publication?

7. Store opportunities.

Any time you see a flyer for an event or an activity you’d like to do, file it away. Or make it a note of it. This applies for anything you might want to do, but feel you don’t get enough time to. It’ll come in handy for those moments when you have lots of free time and no idea what to do with it!

8. Try to do only one thing at a time.

The more things you do simultaneously, the more your focus wavers, and the slower you tend to be.Attack one task at a time, and move on to others quickly, to be at your most efficient.

9. Perform small chores when you get the time do.

Instead of leaving all your laundry, bill-paying, washing and cleaning for the weekend, finish off whatever you can, whenever you get a little time. This ensures that things don’t pile up, and you have your weekends fee for what they are meant for- to relax.
