Facebook users have waited years for this day. Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerburg, finally announced at a town hall on Tuesday at the company’s California headquarters that the world’s most popular social networking site is working on a dislike button.

“People have asked about the ‘dislike’ button for many years, and probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it, and are very close to shipping a test of it,” Zuckerberg said, according to a CNBC report.

More than a dislike button, he said he wanted users to have a option other than the like button, citing examples of the recent refugee crisis and posts about family members who have died. He also added that he didn’t want Facebook to follow a Reddit-like system that encouraged upvoting and downvoting.

“What they really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment,” he said.

Facebook is right now one of the largest drivers of traffic for news publications and brands, and including a button that allows users to express they disapproval would mean a drastic change in their Facebook communication strategy.
