In an article published this year in WSJ, MBA students from Harvard, Northwestern, and Cornell are actively seeking ways to break into product management. Taking the reins of a tech company’s product has never been more appealing. But why?

Before 2008, Product was something that had to be done. Now it is at the core of every major tech company. Uber, Facebook and AirBnb all have Chief Product Officers. The PM understands the user’s problem, and is constantly taking their pulse. The source lies in the ambiguity of PM, in that every product is managed different in every organization, and often differently between different teams within a company as well.

Over the past year, I have spoken with thousands of aspiring and existing PM’s. They want to learn best practices from experienced senior product managers in a structured, formalized setting. Bringing your personal experience and leadership to the classroom lets students see the breadth and complexity of the emerging discipline of Product Management.

Here are some questions that are asked everyday at Product School:

  • What is your typical day as a product manager?
  • How can I find success in applying to PM positions at Facebook, Google, etc. ?
  • How do you influence stakeholders?
  • Feature tradeoff, how to make decision on which features to build, iterate, remove?
  • What is it like to interview end users?

If you are looking to mentor and lead the next generation of Product Managers, then let’s have a conversation about how you can get involved at Product School.
